Hello Folks!
It's September!!! (Basically)
I'm really proud of everyone's flexibility at the Bradford Game! Really, you guys played ALL DAY starting from first thing in the morning. We received plenty of praise, including commentary about how we could be heard all across town! You should be proud!

This week, we play against Baldwin HS. This game should be much lower stakes, but it'll still be busy. Why? It's Rookie Night! Every band member needs to be on their best behavior that day. You have no idea how impactful your words and actions are to an impressionable 8th grader.
I take this very seriously. Consider that YOUR actions could determine whether an 8th grade continues on to high school band or completely stops their music education. And for most people, it seems like if they stop music ed in high school, they stop for the rest of their lives. And the number of adults who have told me they regret not continuing with music or ever learning an instrument is STAGGERING. (Probably some of your folks at home would agree).
Let's all agree to be pillars of positivity for these 8th graders. Let's not be rude, or inappropriate. But other things you may not consider like... your facial expressions, gestures, and the way that you interact with other band members in front of 8th graders needs to be appropriate too. It doesn't matter if it was directed at an 8th grader or not, if they see it, it affects their perception of our program. THINK BIG PICTURE!
Weekly Walkthrough 🧩
Monday, there is the Band EOY Trip Meeting at 6:30pm. If your student is interested in going on the Band EOY Trip (it's not mandatory), then A PARENT AND STUDENT will want to go to this meeting for information and to be able to ask questions. The actual trip will be during Spring Break, April 12-14. If your student wants to stay in the band hall until 6:30pm and wait for their parent to arrive/ practice/ etc..., that's fine. I'll be working in my office.
Tuesday, we have a Woodwind Sectional (student led) from 2:45pm to 3:30pm. We also have After School Rehearsal from 4pm to 7pm.
Wednesday, there are no events scheduled. The band room will close immediately after school so Mr. Moore can have his 'teef' looked at. 🦷
Thursday, we have an After School Rehearsal from 4pm to 7pm.
Friday, we have a Drumline Morning Performance (Call Time 6:45am) wearing your Drumline Shirt and Blue Jeans. We'll be playing stands tunes and waking everyone up for the rivalry game! We also have HOME vs. Baldwin HS. 4:00pm Call Time. It's also ROOKIE NIGHT! So we'll be showing the Rookies the wonders of High School Band! It's gonna be fantastic!

Definitions
IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).
Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.
MMS/CMS= Marching Music Sectionals/ Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of their music.

Upcoming Play Test Calendar 📆
Heads Up:
All Tests are Pass/Fail. Binder Checks are 100pts, Scales Tests are 150pts, Play Tests are 200pts.
Tests generally happen on Mondays and Fridays, with tests primarily happening on Fridays during Marching Season.
Binder Checks/ Flip Book Checks may not be made up.
Play tests on music may be made up until the next after-school rehearsal for that band. Percussionists may make up play tests until the next play test on the same weekday (e.g., a Friday test can be made up until the next Friday play test).
Scale Tests can be made up until the end of the Quarter.
Captains can no longer do make ups. All Make Ups go to Mr. Moore. Request a time to make up something by EMAILING HIM. Please only do a Make Up when you are prepared to pass.

All State Auditions are steadily approaching! Are you preparing an audition? Even if not, you should check out the audition music and practice it! It is available for FREE in our Library, and you can become a better musician!
If you are auditioning, please make sure to keep checking the FBA Website for corrections so you can adjust! The music on our website IS NOT up to date with any corrections, so if there is something you need, please come talk to me immediately so I can help! There's nothing worse than showing up to the audition room only to find out you've prepared the wrong thing! Please make sure everything is correct!
UF Band Day
UF Band Day is on Saturday, September 12th! UF Band Day is a fun event where members of our band get to go to a University of Florida Football Game, play their instrument in the stands, and PLAY ON THE FIELD DURING HALFTIME! It's truly an amazing experience!
This year, UF is asking me to send my list of students by Monday, August 17th (!!!) so if you would like to go to UF Band Day, you need to fill out the form below, and I will take as many students as I can on a first come, first serve basis! Because there are only around 50-60 tickets, I advise signing up as soon as possible. The current interest list is posted HERE. The final list will be posted on August 17th.
Students who wish to go will need to pay a commitment fee of $15 to the band, which can be turned in by 8/14.
Parents who wish to chaperone: information will come out soon, but for UF Band Day, typically UF requires that parents purchase their own tickets separately. When that information becomes available, it will be posted.

🚨 INSTARAISE
Band Family, I need everyone to give me about two minutes on this one, because this fundraiser is extremely important. Please check out all of the dropdowns below.
First: BAND Fundraisers ≠ BOOSTER Fundraisers
This gets confusing, so I want to make the distinction clear.
Our Band Boosters conduct fundraisers throughout the year such as Fair concessions, raffles, car washes, and other hands-on activities. Those funds support the work of the Booster organization on behalf of our students. Band Fundraisers are the major campaigns conducted by the Band program itself.
And this year, I am intentionally trying to reduce those. I hear the fundraising fatigue from our students and families. My goal is for the Band itself to conduct only TWO major fundraisers this year.
But there is a trade-off:
If we fundraise less often, we have to participate MORE when it matters. And InstaRaise matters.
💰 THE NUMBERS
Our band program operates on more than $50,000 each year. InstaRaise has historically raised around $10,000 for us—which is fantastic—but this fundraiser has the potential to do considerably more when everybody participates.
This year:
🎯 GOAL: $15,000🔥 STRETCH GOAL: $20,000
These funds help pay for the everyday operation of our program, our marching production, instruments and equipment—including a needed class set of cornets—and our long-term goal of replacing our band trailer.
So I am asking EVERY band member to participate.
Not every student will raise the same amount, and I do not expect every family to have the same financial resources.
What I do expect is effort.
EVERY BAND MEMBER MUST:
✅ Register for InstaRaise (You can do this tonight by going HERE... if you did instaraise last year at the Middle School or the High School, you can just click login, and your login info will still work. Our Campagin ID is 41753.)
✅ Add at least 15 legitimate supporters—family, friends, former teachers, family friends, etc.
✅ Actually launch/send your fundraiser
Our student leadership will be helping us reach 100% participation and checking our progress throughout the first week.
Choosing not to participate means you will not be eligible for the InstaRaise celebration or fundraiser incentives. Students who have completed the participation requirements will celebrate; students who have chosen not to participate will have regular band work during that time.

We're dividing the Band into seven Fundraising Teams of exactly 10 people.
Every team has one goal:
GET ALL 10 PEOPLE TO 100% PARTICIPATION.
For this challenge, participation means every person has:

There is NO dollar amount required to count toward your team's 100%.
This competition is about effort, participation, and follow-through—not whose family or friends have the most money.

David will assist Jacob with overall follow-through in addition to leading Group 4.
Group Leaders
Cass, Rucha, Devin, David, Bryan, Sophia, and Sid are responsible for keeping up with their 10-person group.
But let's be VERY clear:
Your Group Leader is not responsible for doing your fundraiser for you.
Their job is simply to know:
1. Are you registered?
2. Do you have your 15 supporters?
3. Have you launched?
That's it.
Group Leaders will report their group's progress to Jacob, David will help Jacob follow up where needed, and Jacob will give Mr. Moore the overall picture.
So throughout the fundraiser, you may see something like:
