This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!
Hello Folks!
Go Jags!!!!! š
I'm very proud of our showing at the football game last friday! By all accounts our performance was a win. I think this performance was also very important to show you (especially our newer members) WHY we things need to happen a certain way. As excited as it makes me for this season, I'm REALLY excited for teaching you all this week. I think we're now on the same page. š
I know that we are waiting for Band Shirts and Band Shoes to come in.Ā These items take a little time for a variety of reasons, but know that they are in the making. We hope to have these things ready before our next HOME game, but I will let you know. I'm pretty certain we will have our band shoes in by then at the very least (and if that's the case, then we can get our uniforms involved).
This week, we have an away game at Clay HS. Parents, Mrs. Luke will be making sure that a chaperone sign up goes out, if you are interested. We generally have no shortage of parents at our away events, but to be a chaperone:
You must have a volunteer form with level 2 clearance filled out (found at the front office) OR be a school board employee.
Be willing to ride the school bus if needed.
Accept that you are with us to work (the work is usually easy because we are good š).
Chaperone responsibilities include:
Escorting same- gendered students to the restroom and waiting outside while they take care of business.
Helping carry items for our students who may not be able to carry items on their own.
Helping dissuade fans from sitting in our area of the stands.
Serving as extra eyes and letting Mr. Moore/ Mr. Justin know if there are behavioral issues/ etc..
Helping keep our kids safe.
If chaperone spots are full, that does not necessarily mean you can't help out/ be around! Just reach out to Mrs. Luke at president@bakercountybands.org. However, ONLY CHAPERONES will recieve a badge. (Said badge also DOES NOT guarantee entry at the venues we travel to, so please also come prepared with cash to be able to admit yourself.)
The BIG thing is making sure you have the appropriate volunteer form turned in. Without that, you may not ride the bus or be around students aside from your own child.
Thanks for working with me to help make sure we keep a safe environment for our students! š
A Note About Hydration š§
All band students should be cleared to walk from class to class with their full water jug as long as it is filled with just ICE and WATER. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, PLEASE carry your water jug with you to class and drink PLENTY of water throughout the day.
I've also noticed through the years that those who don't eat often get sick faster. Please eat lunch. Our cafeteria does have good lunch options, but if that doesn't tickle your fancy, then you need to bring a good lunch with some substance. Avoid an abundance of dairy. If you have a dollar or two, you can also purchase the little sugar free gatorades they sell.
You'll also probably want a second lunch or snack for 'in- between' (the time in between school getting out and the start of rehearsal).
ā ļøTHIS ISN'T OPTIONAL. YOU NEED TO EAT AND DRINK WATER. ā ļø
Other Important Reminders:
Check Outs from Football Games-Ā In High School, all student pick ups and drop offs for Football Games and CompetitionsĀ are from the High School Band room. Because all football games are considered field trips, students require documented permission to leave with their parents from the football stadium or other venues. If you know that you would like to take your child with you from a venue (ie, they will not ride the bus back to BCHS), you need to go to the front office to fill out a "Request to leave from venue" form which must be signed by an administrator, and then that signed form must be turned in to my door. When you take your child, please make sure I (or a Director) see both the parent and the student before you leave. If these forms are not completed, I am legally obligated not to release your student to you until we arrive back at BCHS.Ā
Excused/ Unexcused Absences-Ā The Band Handbook gives instructions about Attendance for after school events:

It is important to note that while notice is always appreciated, if attendance conflicts aren't considered valid by the band handbook or by the school, they are not excusable. If a student has an attendance conflict, they need to communicate BOTH with their captain AND via email to Mr. Moore. Here is a link to the Full Band Handbook. Here is a link to the Calendar.
Pregame Meals and During Game Food-Ā The Band is fed before football games. If there are dietary restrictions, please communicate with the Booster President Mrs. Jennifer Luke at president@bakercountybands.org. Because students are fed before games, concessions during half time or third quarter are considered privileges. At Home Games, parents can purchase food to be delivered at 3rd quarter for students to eat. Students will not be allowed to go over to the concession stand on their own during break due to security concerns and because the concession stand will be busy-- making it difficult to get food and return on time. At Away Games, students mayĀ be allowed to go to the concession stand (pending the nature of the game), but are expected to return on time, whether or not they were able to purchase an item.

If we don't have band shoes, then we'll wear the same attire as last week. Just BOLO.
Percussion Class Weekly Plan š„
Day of Week | Plan |
Monday | Check Patterns, Movement 1 |
Tuesday | Check Patterns, Movement 1 |
Wednesday | IPT/ MMS |
Thursday | Check Patterns, Movement 1 |
Friday | Play Tests/ MMS on Stands Tunes/ Cadences |
Definitions
IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).
Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.
MMS/CMS= Marching Music Sectionals/ Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of their music.

Things to Note šµ:
All State Auditions!
All State Auditions are steadily approaching! Are you preparing an audition? Even if not, you should check out the audition music and practice it! It is available for FREE on our website, and you can become a better musician!
If you are auditioning, please make sure to keep checking the FBA Website for corrections so you can adjust! The music on our website IS NOT up to date with any corrections, so if there is something you need, please come talk to me immediately so I can help! There's nothing worse than showing up to the audition room only to find out you've prepared the wrong thing! Please make sure everything is correct!
We will have mock auditions later this month so you can practice auditioning and get some feedback.
UF Band Day
UF Band Day is on Saturday, September 12th! UF Band Day is a fun event where members of our band get to go to a University of Florida Football Game, play their instrument in the stands, and PLAY ON THE FIELD DURING HALFTIME! It's truly an amazing experience!
This year, UF is asking me to send my list of students by Monday, August 17th (!!!) so if you would like to go to UF Band Day, you need to fill out the form below, and I will take as many students as I can on a first come, first serve basis! Because there are only around 50-60 tickets, I advise signing up as soon as possible. The current interest list is posted HERE. The final list will be posted on August 17th.
Students who wish to go will need to pay a commitment fee of $15 to the band, which can be turned in by 8/14.
Parents who wish to chaperone: information will come out soon, but for UF Band Day, typically UF requires that parents purchase their own tickets separately. When that information becomes available, it will be posted.
If you are interested please sign up using this link: https://forms.gle/WdXJPgTmsqvYzAVk9
For more information about the day, including attire and music, please check out the ITINERARY. It will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
FSU Band Day
FSU Band Day is on Saturday, August 29th! FSU Band Day is a fun event where students are able to attend an FSU Football Game and see how the Marching Chiefs does things! High School students don't get to play at this one, but it'll be fun to get the Seminole experience in the newly renovated Doak Campbell Stadium!
For tickets, I have around 50-60 total. 6 are reserved for professional staff, and 5 are reserved for chaperones. Chaperone and Student Tickets are available First Come, First Served. Students and Chaperones will need to fill out the form below, and I will take as many students as I can on a first come, first serve basis! Because there are only limited tickets, I advise signing up as soon as possible. I will post the list on Monday, August 11th.
Students who wish to go will need to pay a commitment fee of $15 to the band, which can be turned in by 8/14.

šØ INSTARAISE STARTS TUESDAY
Band Family, I need everyone to give me about two minutesĀ on this one, because this fundraiser is extremely important. Please check out all of the dropdowns below.
First: BAND Fundraisers ā BOOSTER Fundraisers
This gets confusing, so I want to make the distinction clear.
Our Band BoostersĀ conduct fundraisers throughout the year such as Fair concessions, raffles, car washes, and other hands-on activities. Those funds support the work of the Booster organization on behalf of our students. Band FundraisersĀ are the major campaigns conducted by the Band program itself.
And this year, I am intentionally trying to reduce those. I hear the fundraising fatigue from our students and families. My goal is for the Band itself to conduct only TWO major fundraisers this year.
But there is a trade-off:
If we fundraise less often, we have to participate MORE when it matters. And InstaRaise matters.
š° THE NUMBERS
Our band program operates on more than $50,000 each year. InstaRaise has historically raised around $10,000Ā for usāwhich is fantasticābut this fundraiser has the potential to do considerably more when everybody participates.
This year:
šÆ GOAL: $15,000š„ STRETCH GOAL: $20,000
These funds help pay for the everyday operation of our program, our marching production, instruments and equipmentāincluding a needed class set of cornetsāand our long-term goal of replacing our band trailer.
So I am asking EVERY band member to participate.
Not every student will raise the same amount, and I do notĀ expect every family to have the same financial resources.
What I doĀ expect is effort.
EVERY BAND MEMBER MUST:
ā RegisterĀ for InstaRaise (You can do this tonight by going HERE... if you did instaraise last year at the Middle School or the High School, you can just click login, and your login info will still work. Our Campagin ID is 41753.)
ā Add at least 15 legitimate supportersāfamily, friends, former teachers, family friends, etc.
ā Actually launch/sendĀ your fundraiser
Our student leadership will be helping us reach 100% participationĀ and checking our progress throughout the first week.
Choosing not to participate means you will not be eligible for the InstaRaise celebration or fundraiser incentives.Ā Students who have completed the participation requirements will celebrate; students who have chosen not to participate will have regular band work during that time.
šš§ NOW FOR THE FUN PARTā¦
If I'm asking everybody to go hard on this fundraiser, we're going to have some fun with it too.
INDIVIDUAL REWARDS:
š« $100 Raised ā CANDY BARHit $100 and choose a candy bar from Mr. Moore's Mars candy box!
š $250 Raised ā INSTARAISE PIZZA PARTYHit $250 and you're invited to our InstaRaise Pizza Party!
š§ $500 Raised ā THE BUCKETHit $500 and you get everything aboveā¦
PLUS one opportunity to dump an entire bucket of ice water over Mr. Moore's head at the InstaRaise Celebration.
Yes. The whole bucket.
Yes. If ten people earn it, that's ten buckets.
Yes. I am already questioning this decision. š
Rewards are cumulative:Ā $500 earns the candy bar, the Pizza Party, AND THE BUCKET.
š© THE 100% FUNDRAISING TEAM CHALLENGE
We're dividing the Band into seven Fundraising Teams of exactly 10 people.
Every team has one goal:
GET ALL 10 PEOPLE TO 100% PARTICIPATION.
For this challenge, participation means every person has:
ā RegisteredĀ for InstaRaiseā Added at least 15 legitimate supportersā Actually launched/sentĀ the fundraiser
There is NO dollar amount required to count toward your team's 100%.
This competition is about effort, participation, and follow-throughānot whose family or friends have the most money.
š© HIT 100% = KRISPY KREME!
EVERY team that reaches 10/10 participation earns its own DOZEN Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnuts!
This is NOTĀ winner-take-all.
One team gets to 100%? One dozen.
Four teams get to 100%? Four dozen.
All seven teams get to 100%?
I will very happily show up with SEVEN DOZEN Krispy Kreme doughnuts. šš©

š WHO IS KEEPING TRACK OF ALL OF THIS?
Band Captain ā Jacob Luke
Jacob will oversee the entire fundraiser participation system.
Drum Major ā David Bryan
David will assist Jacob with overall follow-through in addition to leading Group 4.
Group Leaders
Cass, Rucha, Devin, David, Bryan, Sophia, and Sid are responsible for keeping up with their 10-person group.
But let's be VERY clear:
Your Group Leader is not responsible for doing your fundraiser for you.
Their job is simply to know:
1. Are you registered?
2. Do you have your 15 supporters?
3. Have you launched?
That's it.
Group Leaders will report their group's progress to Jacob, David will help Jacob follow up where needed, and Jacob will give Mr. Moore the overall picture.
So throughout the fundraiser, you may see something like:
GROUP 1 ā 80%
GROUP 2 ā 100% š©š
GROUP 3 ā 90% š
GROUP 4 ā 70%
GROUP 5 ā 100% š©š
GROUP 6 ā 90%
GROUP 7 ā 100% š©š
We will NOTĀ publicly post the names of students who have not completed something.
We will NOTĀ publicly post individual fundraising totals.
But your Group Leader will know who still needs to finish.
SEVEN GROUPS. TEN PEOPLE EACH.
Your group's first goal isn't $1,000.
It isn't $2,000.
It isn't even $100.
YOUR FIRST GOAL IS 10 OUT OF 10.
Get registered.Get your 15 supporters entered.Launch the fundraiser.
Then let's see what this Band can do. š„š¶š©
