This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!

Hello Folks!

WELCOME BACK!!!!! ❤️🎶

It’s wild that I’m into my 11th year teaching music at Baker County! And what an amazing group of students I get to share this year with!

Right out the gate we have our first football game at HOME vs. Dunnellon. We need more time, so we will not perform our show, but we WILL premiere pregame and we'll be sure to have plenty of fun in the stands!

This Marching Season is going to be a journey filled with hard work and fun rewards. I want you to read this and keep it in mind through this season:

Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go. You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care. About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street. And you may not find any you'll want to go down. In that case, of course, you'll head straight out of town.

It's opener there, in the wide open air. Out there things can happen, and frequently do, to people as brainy and footsy as you.And when things start to happen, Don't worry. Don't stew. Just go right along. You'll start happening too.

By the way!

Please start looking ahead at the calendar and planning your events/ appointments accordingly. Avoid scheduling appointments on band events.

Case in point: Halloween is also MPA. MPA is a HUGE deal and a massive grade. Do not miss MPA (or any competition/ performance, for that matter.).

A Note About Hydration 💧

All band students should be cleared to walk from class to class with their full water jug as long as it is filled with just ICE and WATER. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, PLEASE carry your water jug with you to class and drink PLENTY of water throughout the day.

I've also noticed through the years that those who don't eat often get sick faster. Please eat lunch. Our cafeteria does have good lunch options, but if that doesn't tickle your fancy, then you need to bring a good lunch with some substance. Avoid an abundance of dairy. If you have a dollar or two, you can also purchase the little sugar free gatorades they sell.

You'll also probably want a second lunch or snack for 'in- between' (the time in between school getting out and the start of rehearsal).

⚠️THIS ISN'T OPTIONAL. YOU NEED TO EAT AND DRINK WATER. ⚠️

Weekly Walkthrough 🧩

Monday, we have the FIRST DAY OF CLASS! YES!!!

Tuesday, we have a Woodwind Sectional (student led) from 2:45pm to 3:30pm. We also have After School Rehearsal from 4pm to 7pm.

Friday, in the morning we have Drumline Performing. Drumline should wear their Drumline shirts and meet at the band room by 6:45pm. I am also trying to have the marching band perform during the lunches either today or on the day of the Bradford Game to teach the audience how to cheer with us, so be on the lookout. We also have HOME vs. Dunnellon HS. 4:00pm Call Time. PLEASE NOTE: You will need to line up so we can march over for a run of pregame just like rehearsal. We will rehearse pregame once or twice before we let everyone worry about getting dressed/ etc. Please meet at the band room wearing a Plain Red, Plain Black or Plain White T-Shirt, or a Band Shirt or Wildcat Shirt, Jeans, and Tennis Shoes).

Definitions

  • IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).

  • Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.

  • MMS/CMS= Marching Music Sectionals/ Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of their music.

Things to Note 🎵:

All State Auditions!

All State Auditions are steadily approaching! Are you preparing an audition? Even if not, you should check out the audition music and practice it! It is available for FREE on our website, and you can become a better musician!

If you are auditioning, please make sure to keep checking the FBA Website for corrections so you can adjust! The music on our website IS NOT up to date with any corrections, so if there is something you need, please come talk to me immediately so I can help! There's nothing worse than showing up to the audition room only to find out you've prepared the wrong thing! Please make sure everything is correct!

We will have mock auditions later this month so you can practice auditioning and get some feedback.

UF Band Day

UF Band Day is on Saturday, September 12th! UF Band Day is a fun event where members of our band get to go to a University of Florida Football Game, play their instrument in the stands, and PLAY ON THE FIELD DURING HALFTIME! It's truly an amazing experience!

This year, UF is asking me to send my list of students by Monday, August 17th (!!!) so if you would like to go to UF Band Day, you need to fill out the form below, and I will take as many students as I can on a first come, first serve basis! Because there are only around 50-60 tickets, I advise signing up as soon as possible. The current interest list is posted HERE. The final list will be posted on August 17th.

Students who wish to go will need to pay a commitment fee of $15 to the band, which can be turned in by 8/14.

Parents who wish to chaperone: information will come out soon, but for UF Band Day, typically UF requires that parents purchase their own tickets separately. When that information becomes available, it will be posted.

If you are interested please sign up using this link: https://forms.gle/WdXJPgTmsqvYzAVk9

For more information about the day, including attire and music, please check out the ITINERARY. It will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
