This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!
Hello Folks!
It's Audition Week!!!
CONGRATULATIONS, BAND!!!
The BCHS Wind Ensemble went to State Concert MPA to push the band through it's last requirement to qualify for the Otto J. Kraushaar Award last Thursday! This is a prestigious award given only to bands who recieve superior ratings from all judges at the District Marching, District Concert, and State Concert Music Performance Assessments.
I want to celebrate.... but I'm not sure how. We do have our Music Department Banquet coming up, but I'm not sure...
In any case, we are closing into the last few weeks of the school year which means we still can't let up yet! This week has so much going on, between Music Ensemble Auditions, Student Staff Interviews, Drum Major Auditions, Colorguard Clinics and Auditions, and the BCMS Concert!
Somehow, though, all of this still feels like much less to deal with then all that we've been through.
The finish line is in sight, cats! Keep pushing on!
Weekly Walkthrough 🧩
Monday, during school, the (full) Marching Band (yes, errbody!) goes to LES, WES, and MES for testing parades. Please arrive at school dressed in your 2025-26 Band Shirt and Blue Jeans. I'll aim to have an all call set for 8:30am. We'll need to be gone by 9am, so hussle! When we arrive back at the band room, the Band Captain Candidates will deliver their speeches and Band Elections will open up! The first Music Ensemble Auditions will take place during 6th period and 7th period. After school, there are Student Staff Interviews. There are also Colorguard Clinics going on!
Tuesday, we have Colorguard Clinics and Student Staff Interviews. Music Ensemble Auditions will be mostly finished today (they go by relatively quick).
Wednesday, we have Colorguard Clinics and Drum Major Auditions. Mr. Moore will be at BCMS during the day to push through 8th grade auditions.
Thursday, BCMS has the their Spring Showcase. Students on the 25-26 Leadership team are expected to help run things. Let's plan to be there by 4:00pm.
Friday, we have Colorguard Tryouts.

Definitions
IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).
Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.
CMS= Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Concert Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of Concert Music OR their Percussion Ensemble Music.

Senior Checklists
Seniors, the time is fast approaching for Senior Checklists to be turned in! Your forms will be passed out on Monday, 4/20. Please complete them by 5/8 or receive a performance grade zero.
(As a reminder, these are due by 11:59pm on Mondays).

By the way, I base birthday announcements on what I can see on the Band App, so if you would like to be recognized for your birthday on the weekly announcements, please make sure your Birthday is set to PUBLIC on the Band App. To do this: Go to our Band App> Settings (Cog on Top Right)> Set Profile> Show My Birthday> Anyone)
