This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!

Hello Folks!

Congratulations on 3rd Place! That's a huge accomplishment!

HERE ARE THE JUDGE TAPES. I highly recommend that Winds listen to Ensemble Music, Individual Music, Music Effect, Ensemble Visual, and Individual Visual. Percussion should listen to those tapes as well AND Percussion. Auxiliary members (if you're reading 👀) should listen to all the visual tapes and Colorguard.

NFHB Postponed?

Your face when you saw that NFHB Auditions were pushed back...

I know this came out of the blue, however, I learned from our Honor Band Coordinator on Thursday or Friday that the recording due date had been moved.

Everyone now has a bunch of time on their hands to continue working on NFHB. That said, please do not put it away and forget about it, use this additional time to get your audition to a point where you can't get it wrong!!! Recording day is now Nov. 16th.

Get Ready! Hard Work is coming! 😅

Be prepared and be warned! Homecoming is NEXT WEEK (not this week..)! And boy is it going to be tough.

We will have a MONDAY rehearsal next week (on planning day) and a Tuesday rehearsal (because we have a competition that Saturday, and we can't rehearse that Thursday).

Then after your free Wednesday, we have the NEFSH Parade, Homecoming Parade, and Cat Growl (where we perform the show) on Thursday. That Friday, we'll have a Full Band Morning Performance and a Football Game (where we perform Pre Game). and that Saturday is Competition at Battle on the Border in Georgia.

I'm telling you about all this now so that you aren't caught off guard. Please make sure you are hydrating and PLEASE stay on top of your classwork so you do not fall behind.

Have you ordered your Solo and Ensemble Music Yet?

We want to make sure everyone gets their music in a timely fashion, so the due date to either have your music or at least show evidence that it is on its way is this Friday.

IF your piece is showing as backordered, my personal recommendation is to find a new piece, submit it on the Solo and Ensemble form, and order the new one. Backordered music tends to take a long time, and rather than wait, I want you to have as much time as necessary to succeed. If you're having any difficulty with Solo and Ensemble music, feel free to email me to let me know what's up.

Percussion Class Weekly Plan 🥁

Day of Week

Plan

Monday

Tuesday

All: Movement 3 with Mr. Moore

Wednesday

All: Movement 3 with Mr. Moore

Thursday

IPT/MMS

Friday

Play Tests/ MMS on Movement 1 and 2 (with Drum Majors, no metronome)

Definitions

  • IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).

  • Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.

  • MMS/CMS= Marching Music Sectionals/ Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of their music.
