This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!
Hello Folks!
Commitment Night is this week!
Don't forget to make sure you and your parents come to Commitment Night this Friday, 3/27 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Students will start with me and then head off to a rehearsal. Parents will stay in a meeting with me where we'll talk about band camp, band dues, and all kinds of neat things!
Commitment Night is important because I use attendance and Band Dues collected on this night to determine drill and whatnot for next year's show.
Please don't blow off Commitment Night! COMMUNICATE!
Speaking of Commitment....
Many of you have customers that have committed to buying doughnuts from us! 🍩 Money for the Krispy Kreme Fundraiser is due MONDAY of this week. :) Remember that I can only accept cash or check (or money order).
Regarding Prism--
This week we will need to have pass offs. The Concert is next week!
Sign your group up for a Pass Off HERE. You can sign up for a 6 minute time slot with any member of Big 4. They will listen to you either during in between or briefly after school on Friday. They will not tell you whether you pass, are called back, or are cut at that time. They will simply listen and mark up their sheet. A list will be posted Friday evening with results. If your group is only able to pass off during a school day, communicate with a member of Big 4.
Good luck!!

Definitions
IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).
Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.
CMS= Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Concert Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of Concert Music OR their Percussion Ensemble Music.

Things to Note 🎵:
Prism Concert 2026
The Theme for the 2026 Prism Concert is Decades, broadly meaning we're showcasing songs from particular decades in the past and the present. We would like a good representation of eras, so only THREE groups can perform pieces from a given decade (including the concert ensembles)! This might put a hamper on people who might want to perform popular songs from the 90's, 2000's, 2010's and 2020's. If you'd like to guarantee your slot, sign ups are available HERE.
For your consideration-- try to consider pieces from the early 20th century! There is a lot of great music there, be it jazz, classical, or even blues and early rock and roll. There is a lot of interesting music across all these music, so do your research! (But do it quick, because the Prism Concert will descend upon us VERY QUICKLY.)
(As a reminder, these are due by 11:59pm on Mondays).
