This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!

Hello Folks!

Wow! What a crazy and awesome week we enjoyed last week! Congratulations to the BCHS Jazz Ensemble and to all of the Solos and Ensembles for their respective performances at Jazz MPA and S&E MPA!! Also, congratulations to the Wildcat Winterguard for a 15 point jump at Flagler Palm Coast HS!

So now what?

Well, Jazz Ensemble will be getting new music on Tuesday to begin to prepare for the Prism Concert. We are also preparing for State, which will hopefully be on 3/17.

If you performed in a Solo or Ensemble that earned a Superior Rating AND was a Grade 5 or Higher, than you may sign up to take that piece to State by sending me an email. If you are in Percussion Ensemble 1, you are automatically going to State. If you are in an ensemble, everyone needs to shoot me an email so I know everyone wants to go.

Just like with regular Solo and Ensemble prep, the responsibility of preparation falls on those students BUT soloists and ensembles can sign up to work with me in 30 minute intervals starting next week.

For everyone else, we're now focusing our attention on Concert MPA (Yay!)! We actually have Concert Pre MPA next Tuesday, where both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band are performing, as well as the BCMS Symphonic and Concert Bands. We have a lot to accomplish, but I know we can overcome it all together!

Definitions

  • IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).

  • Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.

  • CMS= Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Concert Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of Concert Music OR their Percussion Ensemble Music.
