This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!

Hello Folks!

This week is NFHB Week! If you earned placement into NFHB, be sure to check out the Weekly Walkthrough below!

Are you advertising the Dominos Fundraiser? Everyone needs to do their part!

Sustaining what, you might ask? Our lovely Band program, of course!

Shout out to our current Top 10!

Weekly Walkthrough 🧩

Monday, is Mr. Moore and Marcus Monday from 1:40pm (the rest of jazz band will work in Sectionals) until 3:00pm. NFHB Students will rehearse with me from 3pm to 4pm. We have the most students in NFHB, so we need to ensure that our music is solid for the group.

Tuesday, we have an NFHB Rehearsal. Call Time is directly after school; bus leaves at 3pm. Bring Money for Wendy's!!! We'll probably be back home around 9:15pm.

Wednesday, Ms. Snyder is coming during the school day to work with De'Mario Sadler, Sophia Buck, and Jacob Luke during 3rd and Jayden Wilburn and Liam Combs during 4th. Please make sure your music is ready, as you will only have 15 minutes, which would not be best spent reviewing notes and rhythms. There is also Winterguard Practice from 3pm to 5pm.

Thursday, we have an NFHB Rehearsal. Call Time is 10:30am in the Band Room; bus leaves at 11am. Bring Money for Wendy's!!! We'll probably be back home around 6:00pm.

Friday, we have NFHB. NFHB participants will come directly to the band room at 7:30am (there is no school today). We will bus over to UCHS in the morning, but there will be NO BUS to take anyone back after the concert. Make sure that your family comes to support you (and also take you home!) You need to make sure you have everything you need for the concert that evening including your Concert Attire. Is there an NFHB student's parent who would be willing to chaperone? We only need one!

Definitions

  • IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).

  • Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.

  • CMS= Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Concert Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of Concert Music OR their Percussion Ensemble Music.

Solo and Ensemble MPA

Check this out!!

You can sign up for lessons with Mr. Moore in 15 minute time slots HERE.

These lessons are just with Mr. Moore so you can get some feedback and direction forward with your Solo and Ensemble. Please only sign up for a lesson if you are participating in Solo and Ensemble MPA. Everyone participating in Solo and Ensemble MPA should sign up for at least one slot with me.

Our piano accompanists will be coming on certain days during school to work with students performing at Solo and Ensemble MPA in 15 minute time slots. Please make sure that you are ready to play everything you will need to play for Solo and Ensemble MPA by the time your rehearsal with your accompanist comes around, so that you both can coordinate how your parts go together. These rehearsals are NOT so you can learn your notes and rhythms.

Follow the schedule below to know when you will see your accompanist. I did my best to arrange it so that students playing more difficult selections (grade 4, 5, 6) got more time with the accompanist.

Accompanist: Steve Chapman

Feb 4th & Feb 11th

During 3rd Period- M. Crews, L. Wilson, C. Kennedy/ K. Johnson

During 4th Period- Z. Velazquez, J. Ballinger, J. Diaz

Accompanist: CeCe Snyder

During 4th Period- J. Wilburn, L. Combs
