This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!
Hello Folks!
Kudos to our students who participated in NFHB! They had an amazing a musical time learning from Legendary Band Composer Robert Sheldon! The concert sounded WONDERFUL!

We have a lot of visitors coming through this week to help us get better! Be here and stay on top of everything! As we begin closing in on our first sets of MPA's (Jazz and Solo and Ensemble), it'd be prudent to remember that it's very hard for me to help you grow if you are not here.
It's gonna be an interesting week! (Really... an interesting month. PRAY FOR ME Y'ALL. 🤪)
For those of you eagerly awaiting the schedule/ itinerary for Solo and Ensemble MPA, trust that I also am just as eager to know. I appreciate your patience and trust that as soon as the information is available to me, I will make it available for you.
The Dominos Fundraiser is coming to a close! Do your last push to spread some PIZZA! Oh, whoops, I meant love. (Same thing, right?)
Don't forget to turn in your in- person order forms and money by Tuesday!
Shout out to our current Top 10! Landon, you won a $50 gift card in the first week! Please let me know which email address you'd like your prize sent to! (It's a digital gift card).

STOP. Please Read This!
There is an opportunity below to sign up to work with me in 15 minute time slots for Solo and Ensemble that isn't being utilized to its fullest. I admit there have been some snags because my time gets stolen, but there have been a number of catastrophes that were caught only because those students spoke up for Ms. Snyder and didn't bother trying to find time with me so we could address the issues sooner.
This is me affirming you that it is perfectly okay to schedule a session with me regardless of the state of your Solo and Ensemble music. Haven't worked on it at all? Perfect! Come in-- I can give you some ideas for direction. Feel like it's not great? Perfect! I can help with that.
I think some of you are trying to be respectful of my time, not realizing that I’ve already volunteered that time for you. If no one signs up, I’m still just sitting in my office waiting for my next event. Please know that I wouldn’t have offered these slots if I didn’t genuinely want to work with you.
In the future please communicate when you need help early on so it can be addressed before it becomes an emergency.
Weekly Walkthrough 🧩
Monday, Jazz Ensemble has an After School rehearsal with Professor Christopher Creswell! If you are in Jazz and Winterguard, you are excused from Winterguard to be at Jazz. Professor Tony Steve will be joining Percussion Class during 6th period as well!
Tuesday, we have our Solo and Ensemble/ Jazz Pre MPA Concert! EVERYONE is required to attend (just like any other concert) but only those solos/ ensembles going to Solo and Ensemble MPA are performing tonight. Others will be completing an adjudication assignment and supporting those on stage. This is usually a pretty low- key concert, so it's better that the audience is mostly students. Call time is 4pm for everyone so we can set up and work out the particulars of the concert.
Wednesday, Mr. Chapman is coming to work with Solo and Ensemble students during class time. Accompanist assignments had to change, so please look below in "Things to Note" to check out the changes.
Thursday, we have Wind Ensemble Rehearsal from 4pm to 6pm.
Friday, we have Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal from 1:40pm to 3:40pm. David Harris (former Director from Ft. White High School) will be joining us to assist (with a focus on Saxophones). Ms. Snyder will also be here during the school day to work with Solo and Ensemble students.
Saturday, we have Concert Band Camp fom 10am to 3pm! The event starts at 10am, but please arrive by 9:30am so we can get started on time! Please make sure you're on time to this event!
Percussion Class Weekly Plan 🥁
Day of Week | Plan |
Monday | Professor Tony Steve is joining us! When Prof. Steve works with one ensemble, the other will watch. |

Wednesday | Spiraling with Mr. Moore/ Wound Up Floor Time |
Thursday | Wound Up with Mr. Moore/ Spiraling Floor Time |
Friday | IPT |
Definitions
IPT= Individual Practice Time- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on learning their music, prioritizing the section of music Mr. Moore will work that week FIRST, the section of music being tested next SECOND, and whatever the player knows they are struggling with THIRD. (IPT can be used freely for Percussion Ensemble music OR Concert music, but NOT Jazz Band music).
Floor Time- Percussionists are expected to work out rhythms with their drum sticks while sitting in a Drum Circle on the Floor. Care must be taken to ensure accuracy of rhythm AND that all players are playing (and moving their body) together at the same time.
CMS= Concert Music Sectionals- Percussionists are expected to work diligently on their Concert Music specifically. Sectionals may be self- led or be led by Mr. Moore or a member of leadership. If a percussionist isn't being worked with directly, they should be productive in working through another piece of Concert Music OR their Percussion Ensemble Music.

Solo and Ensemble MPA
Check this out!!
You can sign up for lessons with Mr. Moore in 15 minute time slots HERE. (The available slots have been updated for this week and next week).
These lessons are just with Mr. Moore so you can get some feedback and direction forward with your Solo and Ensemble. Please only sign up for a lesson if you are participating in Solo and Ensemble MPA. Everyone participating in Solo and Ensemble MPA should sign up for at least one slot with me.
Our piano accompanists will be coming on certain days during school to work with students performing at Solo and Ensemble MPA in 15 minute time slots. Please make sure that you are ready to play everything you will need to play for Solo and Ensemble MPA by the time your rehearsal with your accompanist comes around, so that you both can coordinate how your parts go together. These rehearsals are NOT so you can learn your notes and rhythms.
Follow the schedule below to know when you will see your accompanist. I did my best to arrange it so that students playing more difficult selections (grade 4, 5, 6) got more time with the accompanist.
Accompanist: Steve Chapman
Feb 4th & Feb 11th
During 3rd Period- Z. Velazquez, C. Kennedy/ K. Johnson
During 4th Period- J. Ballinger
(Each student will end up seeing accompanist twice)
Accompanist: CeCe Snyder
Feb 6th
During 3rd Period- L. Wilson,J. Diaz, M. Crews
During 4th Period- C. Skelton, I. Wood, B. Godbold/K. Cloutier (Need to be Excused from 4th)
(Jacob L, I needed to take away your second slot. I'm trying to coordinate with Ms. Snyder for an additional day before S/E for you and a few others that need it.)
