This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!

Hello Folks!

Is it safe to watch the Jacksonville Jaguars yet? Somebody let me know... 🙈🙉🙊

Aside from some things we already know about, the Band had a great showing at the football game last friday! I was a wonderful opportunity to learn the process. We did not perform our halftime show yet, but that's okay. Now we have four more rehearsals to clean up movement 1 so we can have a great first showing!

This also gives us more time for some items to come in. I know that we are waiting for Band Shirts and Band Shoes to come in. These items take a little time for a variety of reasons, but know that they are in the making. We hope to have these things ready before our next HOME game.

This week, we have an away game at Bradford HS, which (for our football team) is our rival game. Generally, we've only had safe outings at Bradford under my watch, but because of the increased need for chaperone presence, I would like to have at least a few Male and Female chaperones with level 2 clearance (these folks will accompany students to the restrooms or keep watch at the trailers when necessary). I believe I will have several female chaperones who are cleared because they are employed with BCSD, but male chaperones are less common. If you're able to, please fill out the new volunteer form (has a stop sign on the first page) which can be found in the front office.

This week and the Friday Night Football game gave me some important reminders to present to everyone:

  • Play Tests- Fridays during marching season are generally reserved for play tests conducted by the band captains. Band captains now know that they need to tell students if they passed or failed at the time of the test. Students who disagree with their evaluation can request for me to listen to them at that time (doesn't happen often). Students who fail a test have until the end of the quarter to make up rhythm tests and stand tune play tests, until the following Tuesday to make up dot book tests and binder checks, and until the next performance to make up play tests of the show. Make ups can be done directly with Mr. Moore.

  • Check Outs from Football Games- In High School, all student pick ups and drop offs for Football Games and Competitions are from the High School Band room. Because all football games are considered field trips, students require documented permission to leave with their parents from the football stadium or other venues. If you know that you would like to take your child with you from a venue (ie, they will not ride the bus back to BCHS), you need to go to the front office to fill out a "Request to leave from venue" form which must be signed by an administrator, and then that signed form must be turned in to my door. When you take your child, please make sure I (or a Director) see both the parent and the student before you leave. If these forms are not completed, I am legally obligated not to release your student to you until we arrive back at BCHS.

  • Excused/ Unexcused Absences- The Band Handbook gives instructions about Attendance for after school events:

ree

It is important to note that while notice is always appreciated, if attendance conflicts aren't considered valid by the band handbook or by the school, they are not excusable. If a student has an attendance conflict, they need to communicate BOTH with their captain AND via email to Mr. Moore. Here is a link to the Full Band Handbook. Here is a link to the Calendar.

  • Pregame Meals and During Game Food- The Band usually is fed before football games. If there are dietary restrictions, please communicate with the Booster President Mrs. Jennifer Luke at president@bakercountybands.org. Because students are fed before games, concessions during half time or third quarter are considered privileges. At Home Games, parents can purchase food to be delivered at 3rd quarter (by the way, I think we had confusion on Friday because we had halftime off instead of 3rd quarter... My apologies for the miscommunication) for students to eat. Moving forward, Students will not be allowed to go over to the concession stand on their own during break due to security concerns and because the concession stand will be busy-- making it difficult to get food and return on time. At Away Games, students may be allowed to go to the concession stand (pending the nature of the game), but are expected to return on time, whether or not they were able to purchase an item.

Things to Note 🎵:

All State Auditions!

All State Auditions are steadily approaching! Are you preparing an audition? Even if not, you should check out the audition music and practice it! It is available for FREE on our website, and you can become a better musician!

If you are auditioning, please make sure to keep checking the FBA Website for corrections so you can adjust! The music on our website IS NOT up to date with any corrections, so if there is something you need, please come talk to me immediately so I can help! There's nothing worse than showing up to the audition room only to find out you've prepared the wrong thing! Please make sure everything is correct!

We will have mock auditions later this month so you can practice auditioning and get some feedback.

UF Band Day

UF Band Day is on Saturday, August 30th! UF Band Day is a fun event where members of our band get to go to a University of Florida Football Game, play their instrument in the stands, and PLAY ON THE FIELD DURING HALFTIME! It's truly an amazing experience!

This year, UF is asking me to send my list of students by Monday, August 11th (!!!) so if you would like to go to UF Band Day, you need to fill out the form below, and I will take as many students as I can on a first come, first serve basis! Because there are only around 50-60 tickets, I advise signing up as soon as possible. I will post the list on Monday, August 11th.

Students who wish to go will need to pay a commitment fee of $15 to the band, which can be turned in by 8/15.

Parents who wish to chaperone need to read the itinerary below for information about how to do so. While chaperone tickets need to be purchased by August 14th, our student list will not be posted until August 11th, so purchase early at your own risk.
