This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!
Hello Folks!
Congratulations on your Straight Superior performance at Marching MPA this past weekend! And congratulations to the Seniors for earning Superior ratings at Marching MPA for their entire High School career! How exciting!
We now get to turn the page to a new chapter as we focus on our concert band development. With about a month to go (only 21 school days, technically) before our Christmas concert, we really have no time to stop as of now. But don't worry, once we make past the Christmas Concert, we'll definitely have time to breathe.
You're probably wondering about judge tapes and whatnot. We'll get there. The tapes have not yet been uploaded for me to retrieve so I'll make them available when I can.
As we enter concert season, I know that there is typically a common issue revolving around students losing sheet music. All students must have a 1" black binder, and they must keep their must in their black binder. All students should also (by now) have their book "Habits of a Successful Musician" in class. Students should put their name on their black binder and hole punch their music and keep it in their black binder. At the end of class, students should put their music binder in their cubby/ locker with their instrument.
Moving forward, you must sign to receive any new music. If you lose your sheet music, you must put in a request with a librarian to have it replaced, but your music generally will not be replaced during class. The first time you need a replacement of music is free. Afterwards, it will cost $0.25 per sheet of paper to replace your music- AND YOU MAY NOT RECEIVE YOUR REPLACEMENT MUSIC UNTIL AFTER THE FEE IS PAID.
You may think it unreasonable, but printing costs ink, paper, and money; (inevitably) making replacement copies takes away from my librarians time and ultimately hinders their music education. Why should anyone have to miss out on learning because an individual fails to keep up with a few sheets of paper?
If the music you are missing is available online, you can print it for free at home by logging into the BAND App on a computer and going into the Wildcat Pride Music Folder. Not all of the music we play will be able to be found there, but there is a lot!
I will also be brainstorming ways to address problems with people who continually forget their book, or do not have their own binder, or etc... so please don't be surprised if there's more in the coming weeks.

Thursday, there is Wind Ensemble Rehearsal from 4pm to 6pm. Only those in 3rd Period Wind Ensemble and those who have music for Wind Ensemble's set in 6th Period Percussion need to attend these rehearsals (though anyone may sit in to check out the process as long as they do not pose a distraction).
Friday, we have Band Picture Day! The picture fellows will be in starting 3rd period taking photos. Please make sure your hair and everything looks nice 💅. You will wear your marching uniform and hold your instrument for the picture. Practice your winning smile! 😁

NFHB Auditions
Wind Ensemble, Symphonic, and Percussion Students will be preparing the contents of the High School NFHB Audition for chair placements which will be in the first week of October. In theory, if you prepare for our chair placements, you are mostly ready for the NFHB Auditions in November.
I recommend that everyone work on their scales first, which can be found HERE. In most auditions, scales are worth the most points.
