This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!

Hello Folks!

The Noles won...

The Jags won....

And the Gators lost to the Bulls and became UNRANKED??

THIS HAS BEEN AN AMAZING WEEKEND, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!! 😜 (Love y'all, lol)

Despite the loss, the band had a pretty good showing at the Football Game last Friday. A better National Anthem, and a good first run of the marching show. We do have a ways to go, though so let's keep learning and growing together this week!

I was trying to make Mondays and Wednesdays concert days, but professional staff and I are feeling a sense of worry about the quality of our show. I'm going to use Mondays for marching. Wednesdays will continue to be concert sight reading days.

This week, we have Home game vs First Coast HS (I was wrong last week, the Ponte Vedra and First Coast games flipped)! We will be performing our halftime show in the full band uniform this week! It does get hot, so please make sure you are hydrating and taking care of your well being by eating healthy meals and avoiding practices that would make you sick (WASH YOUR HANDS).

Band Grades are mostly up to date!

PARENTS—wondering about your child’s band grade?If it’s not a 100%, here are a few things to check:

  • Attendance – Have they been at all rehearsals and performances? If absences were excused, have doctors’ notes and forms been turned in?

  • Play Tests – Are they passing? If not, are they practicing at home—really practicing (recording themselves, listening back, fixing mistakes)? (When students practice at home, it shouldn't always sound amazing...)

High School band is a big step up from Middle School. Students must balance rehearsals, schoolwork, and regular home practice. In class, we focus on how parts fit together and how to create better tone and balance. So when do students learn their own notes and rhythms?

👉 At Home!

Your students NEED to practice at home! Even if it's just one or two hours a week!

Yes, the band expectations can be a lot—but:

  • It’s no more than other extracurriculars.

  • The overwhelming majority of students handle it with a smile.

  • Nothing worth doing comes without hard work.

September and October will challenge your child, but that challenge builds resilience and character. It’s still early in the nine weeks—plenty of time to recover—and an A in band is achievable for every student. Let their grade be a signal to start the conversation at home.

We’ll rise above it together. And your child will come out stronger for it.

Things to Note 🎵:

All State Auditions!

All State Auditions are steadily approaching! Are you preparing an audition? Even if not, you should check out the audition music and practice it! It is available for FREE on our website, and you can become a better musician!

If you are auditioning, please make sure to keep checking the FBA Website for corrections so you can adjust! The music on our website IS NOT up to date with any corrections, so if there is something you need, please come talk to me immediately so I can help! There's nothing worse than showing up to the audition room only to find out you've prepared the wrong thing! Please make sure everything is correct!

We will have mock auditions on Monday so you can practice auditioning and get some feedback.

IF YOU READ THE WEEKLY UPDATE UP TO THIS POINT, GO BACK TO THE BAND APP AND PUT 🥺🥺🥺 (for the gators) EMOJIS IN THE COMMENTS.

Birthday Announcements!

By the way, I base birthday announcements on what I can see on the Band App, so if you would like to be recognized for your birthday on the weekly announcements, please make sure your Birthday is set to PUBLIC on the Band App. To do this: Go to our Band App> Settings (Cog on Bottom Right)> Set Profile> Show My Birthday> Anyone)

According to Band App, there is ONE birthday this week!

Happy Birthday to Shiloh Yaccarino (9/14)!

Let's have a great week everyone!

And GOOOOOO WILDCATS!
