This is your weekly MUSIC DEPARTMENT update!
Hello Folks!
Happy New Year! I hope this Christmas Break has been restful for you!
I look forward to working with you all in this new semester as we push toward Concert MPA. We have a lot of cool things going on over the next 9 weeks, so please keep focused on the calendar and on your personal schedule. We are officially in another MPA Season, so keep your eye on the ball! (Unlike our Jacksonville Jaguars ðŸ˜)
As we return to our home at the Band Room, I would like to put special emphasis on our tenets, as I think we may have fallen short somewhere along the way. We can't expect success if we allow our core principles to collapse.
Trustworthiness- Be an individual who can be trusted. Do not lie-- to myself or your peers. Follow through.
Respect- Show due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, and traditions of others. Show due regard for your teammates by practicing and being responsible for your music, and by being present to school and your after school obligations.
Attitude- Show in your actions that you are passionate about what you do. Don't bring negativity to the band room and reject negativity as it appears.
Intuition- Make logical decisions instinctively. Recognize the larger impacts of your actions and weigh those against the short term benefits/ drawbacks.
Listening- Be actively aware of your surroundings and stay alert. Be prepared to respond to new information and stay flexible.
We will also be adding some axioms over the coming weeks that I think will reflect how we need to continue to grow.

Leadership Mondays 2024
It's crazy that we already need to start thinking about Leadership for the upcoming school year! If you are interested in becoming a part of the leadership team for 23-24, then you should do the following:
Let a Drum Major/ Quartermaster know you are interested
Purchase 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey (Do NOT Purchase Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)
Plan to attend the Leadership Monday Meetings on 2/26, 3/4, 3/11, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, and 4/22.
Take a look at the below document if you want some ideas on things that we look for out of potential candidates.
Some other things you should consider:
We are looking to e x p a n d our leadership team a little bit. (We don't know what this looks like yet).
We want to find a way for Captains/ QM to go to Leadership Camp as well as the DM's. (We don't know what this looks like yet).
You can talk to myself and other leaders about the process if you wish-- just remember to be judicious.
